    Abstract:

In July 2021, a snake specimen belonging to the genus Bungarus was collected from Zhexiang Town, Wangmo County, Guizhou Province (106°09′15″ E, 24°59′36″ N, altitude 485 m). After detailed morphological comparison and molecular systematic analysis, the specimen was identified as B. fasciatus, which is a new snake record in Guizhou Province, China. Morphologically, we mainly compared diagnosis characters and measurement data (Fig. 1). Phylogenetically, we constructed Bayesian inference (BI) and maximum likelihood (ML) phylogenetic trees based on mitochondrial Cyt b gene sequences. The ML and BI trees presented almost consistent topology, both showed that the new specimen from Guizhou was clustered with the B. fasciatus form Guangdong and Yunnan Provinces (0.99/96, BPP/BSP) (Fig. 2), and the genetic distance between them were from 0.2% to 0.9%.
