    Abstract:

The present study analyzed morphology of the peripheral blood of Ichthyophis bannanica by the Wright-Giemsa staining. The peripheral blood of I.bannanica contained erythrocytes, thrombocytes, lymphocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils and eosinophils.Erythrocytes were oval,elliptical,spindle-or pear-like cells, and their mean density was 2.57×105 cells/mm3.Most leucocytes were round, and their mean density was 0.72×103 cells/mm3.The lymphocytes were most rich leucocytes, followed by monocytes, neutrophils, basophils and eosinophils.Thrombocytes were less, and frequently appeared in groups.Meanwhile,we compared the peripheral blood of I.bannanica with that of fishes, reptiles or other amphibians. The results are discussed on the basis of the possible phylogenetic position of I.bannanica.
