    Abstract:

Pellets from Short-eared Owls(Asio flammeus) were collected and analyzed for preyed remains during March-May 2006 in the Gaoping Airport of Nanchong and near pine forest. Small mammals are the main prey of Short-eared Owls (98.4% of the total frequency), in which 97.2% is Anourosorex squamipes in the 805 whole pellets and some pellet fragments. The roosting habits of Short-eared Owls were determined by the distribution of pellets from Short-eared Owls in the same time. The owl prefers to roost in the fields of Imperata cylindrical (about 20 cm high) than the taller, denser grass.
