    Abstract:

Based on preliminary observation of Ichthyophis bannanicus carried out from December 2012 to February 2013, we discovered for the first time five I. bannanicus (including adult and sub-adult) in hibernation and four hibernation caves in the filed. The study results showed that I. bannanicus tend to choose banks of stream and gentle hillside near water sourse (distance to stream: 0.51-5.23 m) as their overwintering place. The hibernation caves were simple, with the depth from 22.3 cm to 85.4 cm. During overwintering period, they can tunnel or use caves abandoned by other animals. They generally hibernate alone with their body in S or circular shape. In the last, we measured body characters of the five I. bannanicus.
